Images of a woman’s bloody leg with a long painful-looking slash wound have been all over Bali social media since they were uploaded on Dec. 7.
Under the Facebook profile name “Ayu on Holiday,” four photos were uploaded of various angles of the gory leg, accompanied by a status detailing how she got the wound.
Ayu says she needed 31 stitches after she was attacked in the morning by a “sadistic and mysterious” man riding a motorbike on Jl. Griya Anyar, Suung Kauh. She says got very close to her and suddenly cut her thigh with a sharp weapon, likely a razor or box cutter.
She wrote that though she was unfortunately unable to catch his license plate as it all happened so fast, she hopes this perp is caught and dealt with so he’s unable to wound further victims in Bali.
Her status also said that this isn’t the first reported incident of this nature in the area and according to her brother, it’s already happened several times to other people.
The mystery perp’s motive is not known for sure at this time, but Ayu was wearing shorts when the incident happened, which has lead many to believe that the perp went after her because he did not believe her outfit appropriate.
Whatever the reason, this kind of unprovoked violence in Bali—apparently in broad daylight—is disgusting and alarming.
Here’s Ayu’s original post on Facebook that’s been shared over 12,000 times as of writing time:
