A 49-year-old man who stole from dozens of villas in Bali was arrested with his wife, who acted as his accomplice in the life of crime.

The male suspect was shot in the leg after he reportedly resisted arrest by the Badung Police over the weekend.

Badung Police Chief Leo Dedy Defretes said that GS was arrested at a boarding house (locally known as kosan) in South Denpasar. During questioning, GS repeatedly denied all of the accusations against him.

“He is a thief who specifically targeted villas in Badung and Tabanan. He already committed crimes in dozens of locations,” Leo said in a statement.

As the suspect was being recalcitrant, the police managed to extract information from his wife, although she insisted that the pair had only stolen from four villas. His wife reportedly would serve as a lookout while GS broke into villas.

The police confiscated various items from the pair, including dozens of cameras, drones, watches, and fake jewelry. GS, who is a Tabanan resident, rented a room in Sidakarya, South Denpasar, as a base of operations and storage facility for the stolen items.

GS’ wife is still being questioned by police. As per this article’s publication, she is yet to be named a suspect.

GS, who was released from jail in 2019 for similar crimes, is not the only villa thief who got nabbed recently. On Tuesday, the Badung Police announced that they had apprehended 11 criminals who specialized in villa burglary – more specifically, villas where foreigners resided.
