At the opening ceremony for Golkar Party’s Munaslub Conference on Saturday night in Nusa Dua, a chairman candidate stole the show when he dozed off on camera.
A video of the poor guy, Setya Novanto, has gone viral in Indonesian social media, as the camera from the live broadcast pans out across a line of Golkar men in their trademarked yellow jackets during a moment of silence. It would have appeared that Novanto was just closing his eyes in this peaceful moment, but then he totally wakes up mid-snooze and jerks to life, smiling at the camera, when he realized he fell asleep.
Oops, but come on it’s not like we all haven’t done the same thing before at a long meeting or back in the uni days during a lengthy lecture. Perhaps this will only help his chances at winning his election since now his name is really out there and he’s got relatability on his side!
Novanto has since apologized publicly and cited his fatigue and exhaustion from all his hard work as his reason for falling asleep in that moment.
“I apologize for my fatigue yesterday,” Novanto said at the Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua on Sunday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
