The American navy aircraft carrier that anchored in Benoa today is apparently meant to teach the Americans on board a lesson in Indonesian culture.
A press release with a cheery tone is giving much greater detail than an earlier report where a naval source only said “wait for more developments” on why the ship is in Bali.
The forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) hosted a foreign reception for foreign dignitaries and arrivals, to demonstrate the ship’s mission and capabilities, while the crew could “learn about Indonesian culture,” according to the press release.
“I’m really looking forward to hanging out with my friends and experiencing some authentic Indonesian food,” said lance Corporal Ryan Parkinson, from Santa Maria, California and a Marine attached to Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 31. “I plan to do a lot of relaxing on the beach.”
There are about 3,000 personnel on board the ship, Tribun Bali reported.
