UNUD students demonstrate over Jimbaran campus land dispute

Voicing their opinions of a land dispute involving the Udayana University (UNUD) Jimbaran campus, thousands of students, faculty, and staff reportedly took to the streets yesterday.

The rally was nonviolent and was a march around 10 am from the Jl. Sudirman campus to Denpasar District Court, which is about a one kilometer walk, according to Merdeka

The controversial ruling that all this was about granted a piece of the university’s land to private use.

With all the protestors doing their march, police were forced to divert traffic and the court even had to postpone a hearing.

The rector of the university, Professor Ketut Suastika, addressed the crowd and underlined where the university takes issue with the court’s ruling.

Merdeka’s report did not discuss what, if any, action will be taken to address these grievances and how that land will end up being used.
