The Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Bali is urging its citizens to drive carefully in light of the death of 33-year-old Denys Rozanov at the infamous Canggu shortcut yesterday.

Rozanov was found dead at around 8am yesterday at around 8am in an open sewer adjacent to a narrow road connecting Berawa and Canggu. His body was spotted lying on top of a motorbike he rented, and it was suspected that he died at approximately 3am when he drove off the road and hit his head against a concrete structure.

The police confirmed that the victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Bali, I Nyoman Astama, said in a statement sent to Coconuts Bali that they are currently attempting to connect with Rozanov’s family as they were not with him in Indonesia.

“We are grieving the death of Ukrainian citizen Denys Rozanov yesterday,” he said.

Nyoman added that the consulate has warned Ukrainian citizens in Bali to drive safely, especially considering the shortcomings of some roads on the island.

“Also be warned that roads in Bali are not as wide as the roads abroad, so always be mindful and vigilant while driving,” he said.

According to the police, the accident occurred after Rozanov drove straight on a declining right turn, which sent him off the road and down into the open sewer.

Badung Police Traffic Accidents Unit Chief I Gede Artawan told Coconuts it was likely that other road users did not spot Rozanov’s body in the water in the dark early hours of the morning. He was eventually found some five hours after the approximate time of the incident.
