An alleged burglar was arrested in Denpasar after he was chased and captured by a police officer conducting traffic on Friday.
AD, 39, was on police’s wanted list, after being identified as a suspect responsible for the burglaries of three villas in Ubud, which apparently targeted foreign tourists.
Police had been on the hunt for AD after he fled his boardinghouse.
Sabhara Public Tasking Education and Training Center Director Commissioner I Dewa Nyoman Sudiarsa saw AD while he was out conducting traffic in Denpasar on Friday morning. The police commissioner chased AD to a small alley.
AD tried to scale a wall to get away from Sudiarsa, but the police commissioner says he grabbed the suspect’s foot and pulled him down.
Bali Police spokesman Hengky Widjaja hailed Sudiarsa as a hero and said police were relieved to finally have apprehended AD.
“The perpetrator was a thief, specializing in burglarizing in the area of Ubud, Gianyar. There were three villas that were targeted,” Widjaja told Tribun Bali.
In the Ubud villa burglaries, the perpetrator would break in through the door or windows and would snatch valuables from foreign tourists.
“The perpetrator has been submitted to Ubud Police for further treatment,” Widjaja said.
Local reports have not yet specified whether or not AD has already been hit with burglary charges since his exciting arrest.
