Ubud, the perfect spot abroad for Americans to flee if Trump elected as next US president

As November inches closer and closer and the political spectacle that is the American presidential race unfolds, loads of Americans are no doubt preparing for the very real possibility that they may need to flee the country if one Donald Trump is elected.

A great wall dividing the US and Mexico and a particularly shit experience for everyone who’s not a white upper class citizen may be strong enough forces to push people to move oceans away from their homeland.

New York Magazine put together a comical yet helpful guide for Americans who may need to become expats come January 2017 if the Donald is inaugurated and not surprisingly, our beloved Bali made the list, along with Shanghai and Beirut.

NYMag recommends Ubud for its digital nomad-friendly landscape, for “so-called location-independent entrepreneurs, running their companies in between yoga sessions and New Age retreats.” Yup, that sounds just about right.

“It’s like a cheap San Francisco with better weather,” the article tags the jungle town.

And the testimonials from Ubud expats are probably the best. They’re just so Ubudian, if you know what we mean:

“I wake up to the sounds of birds; meditate or do yoga; order my raw organic green juice or turmeric jamu, a medicinal juice, from Wayan’s Coconut Juice Bar; work from my house, a café, or the pool. There’s more going on here than when I was living in San Francisco. There’s even an improv-comedy troupe.” —Monica*, 38, founder of a sleep-mask manufacturer. Nationality: American. Arrived: August 2013.
