Trial pushed back for Aussie man accused of Sky Garden assault

An Australian man in Bali is having his trial pushed back, reportedly after getting a new lawyer because of “communication” issues.

Australian Scott Dobson is facing assault charges for allegedly attacking Sky Garden manager, Canadian Kenneth Wickes, on Sept. 27, 2013. The 53-year-old is accused kicking Wickes and stomping on his chest with two other friends (still on the “wanted list”) after Dobson and his friends refused to pay for their drinks from that night.

Dobson was meant to make a statement in his defense at Denpasar District Court on Wednesday, but he instead told the judge through a translator that he hired a new lawyer, Hari Purwanto, since communication with his previous lawyer was “not very good,” AAP reports.

Now he’s supposed to be back in court on March 14.

Dobson was arrested in Bali in December 2015 after being on police’s wanted list since 2013. He could get up to nine years behind bars if found guilty.
