A two-year-old boy tragically drowned in a fish pond in front of his house on Wednesday, leaving his family shocked and devastated.
Based on information from witnesses, the little boy Adi Nugraha lived with his parents and two brothers in Kampung Jawa, Kepaon, Denpasar. When the incident occurred on Wednesday, the boy was at home with just his mother—Nugraha’s two siblings were at school and his father was working in a bengkel, according to Tribun Bali.
South Denpasar police chief Nanang Prihasmoko says the boy’s death was purely by accident.
Nugraha had been playing alone while his mother went to shower. “Allegedly, because he slipped, the child fell into a pond that is located to the right of the house,” Prihasmoko told Tribun.
Reports say the family has two decorative ponds in front of their house. The pond Nugraha fell into was reportedly 3.5 meters wide and 0.5 meters deep.
When Nugraha’s mother finished her shower, she looked for her son, only to find him in the pond, weak and unconscious. She reportedly rushed him to the emergency room in Sanglah Hospital, where four doctors tried to revive him. But it was too late—the doctors reportedly said after a short time that he couldn’t breathe and they called time of death.
Prihasmoko asserted that the incident allegedly happened because of weak supervision from the boy’s parents and is appealing to parents around Bali to always keep an eye on their children.
