Ten foreigners who are staying at a homestay in Jimbaran reportedly filed a complaint about roosters crowing at dawn and disturbing their sleep.

South Kuta Public Order Chief I Kadek Agus Alit Juwita told Detik the travelers filed the complaint yesterday, as they do not appreciate being able to hear the roosters from Anumana Bay View homestay.

“So the roosters are crowing everyday and this person complained because it occurs at dawn (4am-5am), and also midday,” said Alit Juwita.

A Russian individual, who represented the 10 homestay guests, was accompanied by a homestay staff when they delivered the complaint to Alit Juwita’s desk.

“Based on the complaints, the roosters crow everyday. The guest has stayed at the homestay for a month now,” said Alit Juwita.

The official said that he found the complaint amusing and unprecedented, adding that though the homestay has been around for a long time, no guests had ever kicked up a fuss about roosters in the neighborhood. It’s safe to assume, then, that Bali officials are not going to be rounding up roosters for disturbing some foreigners’ sleep anytime soon.

News about the complaint has been making the rounds in Bali, and locals are unsurprisingly amused and annoyed.

Nora Alexandra, the wife of social media activist and Superman Is Dead drummer Jerinx, took to Instagram to express her disbelief toward the audacity of the foreigners.

“How do you blame roosters for crowing? Do you want to shut them up? You’re lucky you can visit Bali, so can you please not sweat over the small stuff?” she wrote in the post’s caption above.

“Should the roosters bark now? How will the roosters respond upon being interrogated?” she added sarcastically.

“So scary dealing with those acting like the kings and queens of Bali.”
