Thieves allegedly swipe Rp 100 million from man’s motorbike seat storage

This story is going to make you want to never leave valuables unattended under the seat in your motorbike, even if but a minute.

A man in Amplapura claims to have had Rp 100 million taken from under his motorbike seat on Wednesday afternoon, saying the seat of his Honda Vario was pried open by thieves, reports Denpost

Nyoman Kajanan, 51, says he parked outside on Jl. Gajah Mada, Amplapura, when just went to buy Rp 25,000 worth of pulsa. After he made the transaction and went back to his bike about 20 minutes later, he says it was odd that his raincoat was on top of his motorbike seat, since the raincoat had been inside the seat, covering his money. As he got closer, he saw his seat had been busted open and the bag that he says contained Rp 100 million rupiah that he had just withdrawn was then empty.

This happened around 11 am, when there were already a lot of people parked in that parking area, Kajanan said.

From Denpost’s report, it sounds like a car was parked in front of Kajanan’s bike, blocking people’s view of his bike so the thieves could go in and out without drawing attention to themselves.

Kajanan told Denpost that he was carrying such a large sum of cash because he was going to pay his workers and wanted to use some to redeem jewelry from a pawn shop. After purchasing the pulsa, he says he was going to go the pawn shop which was just approximately 50 meters from the scene of the crime.

Based on the statements of several witnesses, there appeared to be two thieves fleeing the scene, both were said to be thin and wearing black jackets, and were riding a black Yamaha Jupiter MX. They were headed south, Denpost reports.

Kajanan says he was shocked to get robbed like this (obviously, or else he wouldn’t have stashed so much cash like that), because he says when took the money out of the bank, he did not feel like he was being followed.

As of writing, police say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
