Thief smashes into ATM and manually pulls out cash in Jimbaran, Bali (VIDEO)

Police are on the hunt for a thief who smashed up an ATM in Bali and made an “unauthorized withdrawal” from the machine on Friday.

While card skimming at ATMs has become all too commonplace in Bali, some thieves still apparently prefer to keep it old school and just physically bust into the machines themselves.

CCTV footage shows the masked perpetrator breaking into a Maybank ATM at the Surfer’s Paradise Outlet on Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai in the early hours of Friday morning.

The perpetrator tied up the security guard on duty, Asti, an employee from the outlet told local newspaper, Tribun Bali.

“The security guard was tied up there. The perpetrator also smothered him with duct tape,” the woman said.

Kuta Police Chief Wayan Sumara confirmed the case.

“We are investigating the perpetuator and a team from INAFIS (Indonesia Automatic Finger Print Identification System) has gone to the crime scene. We’ve also examined a number of witnesses,” Sumara said.

Clips of the crime scene, recorded by Tribun Bali, show police tape securing the crime scene, where the glass panel had been totally shattered by the perpetrator when he entered.
