Vigilantism is alive and well in Denpasar. But thankfully the latest reported episode in Denpasar is much more comical than violent.
A group of four teens were stripped down to their underwear and shamed in the street on Tuesday for throwing old tires at passing vehicles on Jl. Gatot Subroto and Jl. East Sekar Tunjung.
They were caught and made to strip by a security guard who noticed what they were doing was dangerous to motorists and especially motorcyclists, East Denpasar Police Criminal Unit Chief Nyoman Darsana confirmed. But seriously, an oncoming tire really could do some damage and cause a serious accident!
The four teens were identified in a Metro Bali report by their initials PAP, 17, KAYPS, 16, PGAHT, 17, and GAS, 15.
“It’s true, based on interrogations, that all of them are minors,” Darsana told local media.
The four teens told police that they didn’t mean to hurt anyone and had just been throwing the tires as a joke—which is apparently why the security decided to make a joke out of them!
Darsana denied that the teens had committed any robbery as the Facebook post circulating of the underwear-clad teens suggested.
The four were not kept in custody because a they are minors, according to reports.
