A teenage boy who jumped into the ocean in Seminyak in an attempt to save his little brother’s life has gone missing, officials said, while the younger sibling has been rescued.

It started as a day of fun and leisure at Double Six Beach today for MAA, 16, and his younger brother, D. The boys came from Denpasar and arrived at the beach at around 8:30am to enjoy their holiday one day before the Galungan feast.

After having fun kicking a ball under the sun, MAA and D went to take a dip to refresh themselves.

The youngsters reportedly swam in an area where a red flag was hoisted – indicating serious hazards from strong waves or currents in the ocean. A beach officer warned the boys to move somewhere safe, but, as he arrived back at his station, he received a report that a visitor had gone missing.

It was reported that a strong wave washed over D and pulled the boy toward the sea. MAA’s older brother instincts kicked in and he plunged into the ocean in a bid to rescue D. Unfortunately, the merciless current took MAA as well and he disappeared into the sea.

The younger brother survived the life-threatening waves.

Per this article’s publication, authorities are still lookfor MAA. His family have arrived at the beach as they hope for MAA’s survival.
