A young couple was arrested in Tabanan on Friday for theft carried out at a cafe in Kerambitan. The pair is reportedly claiming that the action was done to hold collateral against the boss, who hadn’t paid the husband’s salary.
TC, 28, had been working as a mushroom farmer next to Kafe Citra, owned by his boss, I Wayan Suirya. TC and his wife, LS, 21, stole Rp 24 million worth of stuff from the cafe after he claims he didn’t get paid for a month’s worth of work.
“Because my salary that I earned has not been paid yet, which means 28 days of working with mushrooms, after I was already promised a salary, I took these items, as a guarantee for me,” TC told Kerambitan Police on Wednesday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
TC and LS were arrested in their home in Wringin, Bondowoso, East Java.
The stolen stuff apparently included a Yamaha Jupiter motorbike, a 29-inch LED television, laptop, an equalizer sound system, mixer, and DVD player, all of which had been brought to Bondowoso.
TC said someone offered him money for the stuff on the ride to Java, but he refused because he intended to give the stuff back to his boss after getting paid.
“On the boat, during the crossing, Rp 3 million was offered for these goods (excluding the motorbike), I didn’t accept it. If the boss would have made a plan to transfer my salary of Rp 1.3 million, I would send the stuff back,” LC said.
TC explained that he didn’t see that as stealing, he was just “moving” the stuff.
However, police see things differently and the pair could be facing charges that carry a max penalty of nine years in prison.
