Sweet! Bank Indonesia bans candy as change in Bali

Not that those tiny little Rp 100 coins will get you much, but how annoying is it when you pay for something in the minimarket and get candy back instead of money? Especially when the candy tastes like pure sugar and syrup mixed together. And besides, those little coins eventually add up, at least enough so you can pay the parkir guy.

Well to make sure Indonesian coins are fairly circulated (after Rp 7 million were just dumped on the Australian embassy’s doorstep), the national bank is reportedly banning the use of candy in place of coins in transactions conducted in Bali.

Head of Bank Indonesia (BI) in Bali Dewi Setyowati says the amount of coins returning to Bank Indonesia is increasingly less, reports Tribun Bali

According to Setyowati, this is presumably because of the rise of using candy over coins to give small amounts of change back in transactions.

Setyowati told Tribun on Wednesday that the bank plans to socialize this policy change in the near future.
