The warehouse was storage for handicrafts, mainly made from coconut shells as well as seashells, according to reports.

The fire, blazing around 2 am, awoke Safei, 42, who had three blocks of asbestos at the rear of the warehouse.

“When the witness woke and got out of the house, he saw the fire had engulfed the warehouse handicrafts. The witness immediately awakened people around tried to extinguish the fire,” South Denpasar Police’s Criminal Unit Insp. Bangkit Dananjaya told Tribun Bali

Thankfully fire engines and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Denpasar quickly arrived at the scene and were able to extinguish the fire after about two hours.

“Police are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. The suspected cause is that the fire started from a cigarette butt,” Dananjaya said.

While fortunately no one was injured in the fire, the owner of the handicrafts reportedly suffered Rp 300 million in material losses, with the destruction of the goods as well as certain machinery.
