Suspect resists, but is ultimately arrested over slashing police officer in Denpasar

A man suspected of attacking an officer for Bali’s Water Police last week was finally arrested after a real struggle.

Officer Ida Bagus Trisna Sedana was driving home to his kos last week on Feb. 26 in Panjer, Denpasar, when some men on a motorbike drove by and slashed him, allegedly because he had scratched their motorbike in the parking of a warung where he had just been eating.

After a week, Denpasar Police say they were able to identify and secure the slashing suspect, who they have identified as Muhammad Rohman.

Police say they had to track Rohman’s movements for awhile because when they first saw him on Jl. Tukad Irawadi making Ogoh-Ogoh, he was gone, when they tried to get closer.

However, they were finally able to track him down to a house on Jl. Tukad Sanghyang and so Denpasar Police raided the place on Thursday night (March 3).

Rohman didn’t go down without swinging. He attempted to revolt and took a punch to the face by an officer as he tried to get away, reports Tribun Bali

Once secured, Rohman was taken to Trijata Police Hospital for treatment and then finally the station to account for his actions. He has since been languishing in South Denpasar Police custody, reports say.

“When arrested, he claimed to have committed the act. But this case still has to be developed further,” South Denpasar Criminal Police Insp. Hendi Septiadi said on Thursday, as quoted by Tribun.

A Honda Scoopy motorbike, a blade, a residence permit, and a Bangli Hospital care card were confiscated from Septiadi upon his arrest.

Because of the hospital card, Septiadi said police are examining the possibility that the man has a mental illness.
