Suspect in Engeline murder beaten in Kerobokan Prison, will stay in the same cell

A suspect for eight-year-old Engeline’s murder was reportedly beaten up inside Kerobokan Prison. Disturbing as this is, we can’t say we’re entirely shocked, as the little girl’s death in June has captured all of Bali’s attention, enraging many.

Even though Agus is a suspect in the murder and is being held in Kerobokan during his trial—aka he’s not serving time and has not been found guilty or innocent—some inmates at Kerobokan clearly think he’s responsible for Engeline’s murder.

But despite his attack, Agus Tay Hamda May will remain in the same cell—he’ll just get extra security on him, reports Tribun Bali

Kerobokan Prison Governor Sudjonggo told Tribun that no further action is being taken against the three other prisoners that attacked and Agus and it was all just a “misunderstanding.”

Agus was reportedly attacked on September 7, but the incident wasn’t made public until this Tuesday when he was visited by his lawyer, Haposan Sihombing. According to Sihombing, his client suffered bruises around his eyes and impaired vision.
