Super Blue Blood Moon fails to reveal itself in Bali, thanks to cloudy conditions

Thank you rainy season for floods, landslides, and not letting us see the Super Blue Blood Moon.
Thank you rainy season for floods, landslides, and not letting us see the Super Blue Blood Moon.

Sky-watchers in Bali last night were disappointed—Coconuts Bali included—when the Super Blue Blood Moon failed to be visible on account of cloudy weather conditions.

The moon was supposed to be visible in Bali Wednesday night, appearing closer and brighter with a reddish glow; but apparently the weather gods in Bali weren’t here for it.

Head of Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) area III Denpasar, Muhammad Taufiq said that overall in Indonesia there ended up being few places where visibility was clear for the moon, naming at least four cities across the archipelago nation.

“Banda Aceh, Jakarta, Bengkulu, and Jayapura. The whole of Bali could not see it because the weather was cloudy.

“This cloud thickness was high enough to prevent the lunar eclipse,” Taufiq said.

At Bali’s Sanur Beach in particular, hundreds gathered to observe the rare natural event when a super moon and total lunar eclipse would line up on a blue moon, the second full moon in a single calendar month.

But because rainy season is ongoing and clouds last night blocked the view, many were let down and unable to see the lunar phenomenon that last occurred 152 years ago.

“Since the afternoon, I’ve come here to see the eclipse, but because of natural factors beyond our control, yes, ended up being disappointed,” Via Annisa, a local resident told Antara Bali.

A photography enthusiast, Aris Budi, who also came to Sanur with a number of other photographers had a similar response: “I was here for the goal of getting eclipse photos, just uploading them on Instagram or Facebook, but it was thick here so I failed to get a photo.”
