Gianyar Police are investigating a young man who allegedly has links with terrorist networks.
The arrest has caused quite a bit of chatter that the man may be linked to ISIS or the Jakarta attackers. But the most recent reports have backed off speculation and are simply stating that we’ll have to wait until police have finished examining him to know whether he’s a real threat.
Police say 24-year-old DNM is a university student studying engineering in Badung and was arrested in the first place because they suspect he’s a supporter of extremism.
“He was being searched for by West Java Police. He was newly suspected of sympathizing with radical groups. Still in questioning. Now he’s still with Gianyar Police,” Bali Police Chief Insp. Gen. Sugeng Priyanto said on Wednesday, as quoted by Kompas.
DNM was arrested at an art shop in Ubud and reports have said he normally lives at a boarding house in Bandung, West Java.
“So the examination is still ongoing. If later there’s no evidence/proof, yes, he’ll be released,” Priyanto explained.
