St. Regis bell boy is the first witness to take the stand at ‘Bali suitcase murder’ trial

The American couple accused of orchestrating the “Bali suitcase murder” is moving forward in their trials.

A bell boy from the scene of the crime, the luxe Bali St. Regis, and two Bali police officers testified at 21-year-old Tommy Schaefer’s trial, reports the AP.

Schaefer, along with his girlfriend Heather Mack, 19, are accused of killing Mack’s mother Chicago socialite Sheila von Wiese-Mack and stuffing her into a suitcase in Bali back in August 2014. The couple is being tried separately.

The bell boy did something he probably never thought he would do when he first signed up for his job: he reportedly got to be the first witness to testify on Thursday. Following the bell boy was a technician who went over the hotel’s security camera, and then two of the five policemen who were involved in capturing the couple.

Mack is pregnant with Scaefer’s baby and is expecting in April. The pair is charged with premeditated murder, which carries the maximum penalty of death.
