Bedugul, Bali has been selected as a meeting point for botanical garden operators in Southeast Asia.
The Southeast Asia Botanic Gardens Networking Meeting is running from Nov. 2-5 at the Eka Karya Bedugal Botanical Garden.
“The regional botanical garden network must be developed to promote plant conservation at the international level,” Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain, the head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) explained, as quoted by Antara.
Plant conservation is a serious issue in the region, as threats to biodiversity in the region are ever increasing, according to Zulkarnain.
As far as Indonesia goes, Zulkarnain says that the country has a national policy in the works that would help conservation efforts, called the Indonesian Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP).
