Soap actress Jennifer Coppen drops charges against the man who slapped her for defending a woman from being harassed

In the early hours of May 12, TV actress Jennifer Rochelle Coppen was about to leave Shishi bar on Petitenget Street when she saw an inebriated woman being harassed by several men. Jennifer decided to intervene but she was slapped instead by one of the men – who turned out to be the group’s bodyguard.

Following a two-week police investigation, Jennifer decided to meet the perpetrator, KJ, over the weekend and the two reportedly settled their conflicts privately. After the meeting, they came to the police’s headquarters to say that they had come to a peaceful settlement.

“The truth is, the police are still investigating but the accused and Jennifer […] came to the North Kuta Police to resolve the case peacefully,” North Kuta Police crime unit chief Mohammad Amir said Saturday.

Amir explained that the police decided to take the restorative justice approach and shut the case.

As previously reported, Jennifer, who is 20, suffered injuries on her right cheek and jaw. She claimed that injuries from the assault would hamper her career in the beauty business.

Some people praised Jennifer for standing up for another woman.

As for the perpetrator, local outlets reported that he is an Indonesian citizen who spent most of his life in the US. Amir told a local news outlet that an interpreter was needed during KJ’s questioning due to his lack of Indonesian proficiency.
