So far, 130 turtle nests found along Jembrana beach this nesting season

It’s nesting season for little turtles.

Since April this year, 130 nests have been found all along Jembrana beach, the majority located at Pantai Perancak. The nesting season usually runs until September, Tribun Bali reported.

The abrasion platforms along the shorelines of Perancak beach have triggered some worries around the impact that it would have on turtle conservation. However, according to the co-ordinator of turtle conservationists at Perancak village, I Wayan Anom Astika Jaya, so far it doesn’t seem to have affected breeding, because they haven’t found any turtle imprints along the platforms.

Last year, 245 turtle nests were found between the nesting period April to September. Each nest reportedly had about 70 to 130 eggs.

Jaya told Tribun Bali that he is not prepared to say whether the abrasion platform is likely to affect turtle breeding this year. He will wait until the end of the season and compare the number of nests found this year to the number of nests found last year.

He concluded, “I’m sure that the turtles will adapt to this situation.”
