The remains of a Spanish man was discovered in a dilapidated house in Nusa Dua, Bali yesterday, local police confirmed.

A neighbor told authorities that they had not seen the man for around six years.

The skeletal remains of MLE, 76, which police say were reduced to “bones,” were found by his adoptive son, Anang Firdaus, 38, who came to clean his house.

“The adoptive son was the first person who found [the body],” said South Kuta Police Chief Comr. I Ketut Sugiarta Yoga.

Preliminary investigation showed that the man was born on Sept. 17, 1945, in Barcelona, Spain.

Anang arrived at MLE’s house (which looked neglected) yesterday with another witness, Purwanto, and found the door locked. He later decided to break through a window by prying it open with a spring knob. Once inside, Anang became suspicious when he noticed the victim’s bedroom was also locked.

After kicking down the door, he was shocked to find MLE’s bones on the bed. He immediately called out for help from the neighbors and reported the finding to the police.

Anang later revealed that a week earlier he saw MLE in his dreams, pleading for Anang to visit him every once in a while. Anang admitted that his job made it difficult for him to see his adoptive father.

MLE’s neighbor Made Karta, 63, said that he had not seen the Spaniard for six years and thought he already returned to his country. The neighbors knew that MLE would return once a year to Spain to renew his visa.

MLE’s remains were brought to the Sanglah Hospital for further autopsy. The police are still investigating the cause of death.
