Screw the no-smoking area: the general attitude at Sanglah Hospital

Where cigarettes are consumed faster than water, it comes as no surprise that attitudes towards no-smoking areas in Bali can be pretty lax, even in hospitals.

While the entrance to the rear of Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, one of Bali’s best reputed hospitals, is supposed to be a no smoking zone, Tribun Bali noticed some youngsters lighting up on their last visit.

Despite the no smoking signs (dilarang merokok), Director of Human Resources & Education, Triputro Nugroho M.Kes, says Sanglah quite often catches rule-bending smokers, but the hospital usually just issues a warning instead of taking any action. Apparently those “warnings” aren’t take too seriously.
