Sara Connor and David Taylor made to reenact Bali cop’s murder, still some inconsistencies

The two foreigners accused of murdering a Bali policeman were returned to the scene of the crime early this morning for a reconstruction

Australian woman Sara Connor and her British boyfriend, David Taylor had to act out the murder of officer Wayan Sudarsa at Kuta Beach at about 4 am this morning, exactly two weeks after he was found dead on the beach.

Based on a video posted by ABC Australia, there was a lot of hugging between the two—the couple has been separated since their arrest.

The reconstruction went on for more than three hours.

The big question over the past week or so has really been whether or not Connor helped Taylor assault and kill Sudarsa.

Connor has maintained her innocence and even claims to have tried to “protect” the officer from Taylor.

Denpasar Police Chief Hadi Purnomo, however, says the reconstruction demonstrates that Connor was involved and used Sudarsa’s walkie talkie to hit him.

“She helped, she was involved,” Purnomo told reporters.

“At the time Sara was bitten by the victim because she was on top of the victim and the victim bit her.

“The deadly blow was when David [Taylor] assaulted the victim using a bottle — a broken beer bottle — which he stabbed on the victim repeatedly, that caused the victim to be incapacitated.”

But Connor’s lawyer, Erwin Siregar alternatively says the reconstruction shows Connor tried to separate Sudarsa and Taylor, as she had claimed.

“In my opinion, from the reconstruction today there were a lot of scenes that Sara didn’t know about because basically what she tried to do was to separate them,” Siregar said.

“Sara took the walkie talkie but she threw it away she didn’t use it to hit, and that was clearly shown in the reconstruction this morning.”

Meanwhile, Taylor said the reconstruction was not a totally accurate portrayal of what happened.

“He told me that some things aren’t right here, but I said to him that is Sara’s version of events so you make your own version,” Taylor’s attorney, Haposan Sihombing said.

“From what played out at the scene it seemed like Sara was separating them, but it will be proven in court whether she was actually separating them or whether article 170 can be applied, that she was together committing group assault, which has a 12-year penalty,” he added.

The pair are in deeper trouble for allegedly attempting to destroy evidence and stealing from the victim, according to Bali Police Chief Insp. Gen. Sugeng Priyanto
