Sanglah Hospital overcrowded with chemo patients, plans to build cancer center

Facing a growing demand for chemotherapy patients at Rumah Sakit Sanglah, the Denpasar hospital has plans in the works to build a cancer center.

The hospital has been getting mounting complaints that the queue for chemotherapy is just too long and service too slow, which the hospital’s Head of Medical Support Dr. Ken Wirasandhi attributes to the hospital’s limited facilities and the limited availability of drugs.

Wirasandhi told Tribun Bali that chemotherapy drugs have been in limited supply on a national level, so the hospital must wait for stock to come back.

Meanwhile, special equipment such as protective suits for staff from radiation doesn’t come at a small cost, so the hospital’s got to collect funds to make the cancer center a reality. At this rate, hopefully by next year, we can see a change in the hospital’s cancer treatment services, according to Wirasandhi.
