Russian prisoner dies at Kerobokan Prison, vomiting and difficulty breathing

One prisoner serving a narcotics sentence at Kerobokan Prison did not live to see his release date.

Russian national Anton Pudikov died in his prison cell on Tuesday at 12:30 am, reports Tribun Bali

Police are not yet sure of the 35-year-old’s cause of death, but they have commented to local media that there appears to be no sign of foul play. Permission for an autopsy has yet to be granted as authorities must seek approval from the Russian Consulate and the man’s family.

North Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Arta Ariawan says Pudikov’s death was first noticed by his cellmate, a Dutch prisoner, John Harm Nijman.

Police said Nijman was awoken by the sound of something falling and looked to see Pudikov was not in his bed. Then he found Pudikov on the ground, lying in a pool of vomit, reports say.

Nijman and another two cellmates tried to save the Russian who was struggling to breathe, but they were ultimately unsuccessful, Ariawan explained.
