A Russian man was found dead in the swimming pool of a villa in Seminyak, police said, as they suspect that he was under the influence of alcohol when he slipped and fell into the pool.

Denpasar Police spokesman I Ketut Sukadi said yesterday that the body of the 35-year-old Russian citizen, who was only identified by his surname Mikhailovich, was discovered on Monday at around 10:30am by his female friend who is staying in Canggu.

“She went to meet him and deliver food. But instead she saw her friend at the bottom of the pool facing down,” said Ketut.

The witness screamed in panic and alerted Wayan Sukra, an employee of the villa, who immediately notified the authorities.

No signs of physical harm were found on Mikhailovich’s body.

Villa staff told the authorities that the victim checked in on Dec. 17 and had planned to check out next week. Witnesses also said that the victim often consumed alcohol to the point of severe inebriation.

The Kuta Police are still investigating the death.
