Russian man found dead in Kuta hotel room, hanging in bathroom by his shoelaces

The body of Russian citizen, Alexandr Shkliaev, was found rotting at Hotel Mahendra in Legian, Kuta on Monday.

Police told Merdeka that the man was found dead around 11 pm by hotel security guard Ketut Arditha.

Arditha reportedly told police that the legs of the body were rotting and he had checked the hotel room because he could smell a stench when he walked by Shkliaev’s room.

When Arditha told the hotel front office staff to check the room because of the stench, the employees were reportedly greeted with an even stronger stench and found the Russian in the bathroom, dead, hanging by his shoelaces.

The 26-year-old Russian reportedly checked in on April 20 and should have checked out on April 27.

The hotel was negligent in not better examining the rooms and noticing that there was a dead guest, Kuta Police Chief Deddy Januartha told Merdeka.

The body was sent to forensics at Sanglah Hospital for further investigation, Januartha says.

Previous reports have said that the man must have already been dead two to three days before he was found for his body to have decomposed so much.
