The fate of a 42-year-old Russian man, GK, took an unexpected turn during his visit to his college-going child in Bali. He now has to deal with law enforcement due to an incident involving a dog.
GK reportedly assaulted a local dog and its owner, Putu Marione (53), leaving them both badly injured. GK was angry when he saw Putu’s dog chasing his wife, an Indonesian woman, who was frightened upon entering their rented residence.
“As a result, [Putu] sustained facial injuries and required five stitches,” stated South Kuta Police Chief I Nyoman Karang Adi Putra today, as quoted by Kumparan.
The incident unfolded when GK and his wife arrived at the Permata Housing Complex in Jimbaran on Oct. 8 around 10:45pm.
While GK was driving a car, his wife was on a motorcycle. From the car, GK witnessed the dog chasing his wife as she entered the residence.
GK then stopped the car and got out to rescue his wife. He pursued the dog to the Putu’s residence nearby. Fueled by anger, GK struck the dog within the property.
Upon hearing his dog barking, Putu promptly exited his home. He was astounded to find GK assaulting his dog with his bare hands.
Putu approached GK and requested that he cease harming the dog. In response, GK delivered a single punch to Putu. Outraged, Putu reported the incident to the police.
The police apprehended GK at his rented residence on Monday. During questioning, GK revealed that he had only been renting in the housing complex for a month and that he resides in West Nusa Tenggara with his wife. The couple were in Bali to visit their child, who attends an unnamed university on the Island of Gods.
“They [Putu and GK] didn’t have any prior issues. It seems GK acted out of anger when he saw his wife in distress,” explained Karang.
At present, neither Putu Marione nor GK have reached a settlement. The dog’s condition following the assault was not disclosed.
GK is now facing assault charges, which carries a maximum penalty of 2 years and 8 months’ imprisonment.
