A 31-year-old Russian man was arrested last month for carrying marijuana-infused chewing gum at Ngurah Rai International Airport, police confirmed.

The Desnogorsk resident, identified by his initials DK, reportedly arrived at the Bali airport in the early hours of Feb. 1.

Customs officers found DK in possession of a large white suitcase containing a total of 43.35 grams of delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol in the form of chewing gum and 153.9 grams of delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol in the form of chocolate cookies.

“The suspect said that the marijuana was for personal use,” Bali spokesman Satake Bayu said today.

Under Indonesian law, DK may face 12 years behind bars if proven guilty of illegal narcotics possession.
