Religion is such a major part of life for most Balinese, but the topic doesn’t tend to make the news that often because of the harmonious nature of the island. Balinese predominantly practice Hinduism, which is extremely evident here with the temples on every corner and canang sari offerings on every street. Big Hindu holidays though often stop the island and demand attention from all—Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year and “Day of Silence”, literally does this as the whole island is mandated to power down and cut electricity and stay inside. You can also find Christians, Buddhists, and Muslims, on the whole living peacefully in Bali amongst Hindus.
