A “corpse flower,” also known as the rafflesia flower was reportedly spotted in bloom on Friday near Ubud.
Noting that it was a repeat event that garnered local interest because of its uniqueness, local resident Nyoman Sari said that last year there were flowers like this growing in her yard, as quoted by Antara.
The flower, maroon in color, does not emit a foul scent like the kind that grows in the bushes or in public cemetery areas, Sari reportedly said.
While the rafflesia flower actually comes in 170 varieties, 25 species can supposedly be found in Indonesia, according to Antara. Outside of Bali, they grow in Bengkulu and Sumatra particularly.
