Raining Trash: Kuta Beach garbage may peak at 100 tons per day

Kuta is looking more trashy than ever, but if you’re disgusted by Bali’s seasonal trash tidal wave, then calm yourself because we may not even be close to reaching the daily peak of garbage yet.

The volume of waste on Kuta Beach is an average of eights trucks per day, which is about 24 tons, says Wiwik Haryanto, coordinator of the rapid response team (URC) for the Badung department of hygiene and public spaces (DKP) to Tribun Bali

Even with about 24 tons a day, Haryanto believes the volume of waste shipment from Kuta Beach has not reached its peak yet: that will happen between January and early March, he says.

However, Haryanto’s colleague Putu Eka Mertawan, the head of DKP Badung says the increasing volume of waste shopped out of Kuta does not have him worried. When compared with previous years, this condition is normal, he told Tribun Bali.

Probably a situation where it would be good for Mertawan to differentiate between what is normal in Bali and what is healthy.

Usually, the peak amount of garbage a day could peak at 100 tons, explained Mertawan. This upped workload has DKP deploying more URC officers to the beach. For awhile, there were only 23 personnel, but with these conditions on the ground, later emergency personnel and equipment will be added, Mertawan said.

But New Year’s in Kuta will be given special priority by DKP. A whopping 1,000 will be on duty, with 500 in morning and 500 in evening shifts, Tribun reports.
