Public transportation and traffic in general suck in Bali, gov plans to build new rail system

Is this what Bali’s future could look like, free of macet? Overly hopeful dreaming?

It’s not like the blueprints are already laid out or anything, but at least provincial government on the island is trying to get the dialogue rolling about building rail transportation in Bali.

“We think that this mode of transport will be able to break the bottleneck that each year continues to increase. Therefore, we expect a plan that would be realized in the future,” said Ketut Artika, head of the Department of Transportation, Information and Communication province of Bali, as quoted by the Bali Times.

Artika reportedly made these aside remarks at a regional council meeting on Tuesday in Denpasar.

“It is true that Bali has a discussion about building rail transport in an effort to facilitate the activities of the community as well as tourists who will visit the objects in regencies,” Artika said.

However, this idea is in such a premature stage that we would be jumping the gun to get over-excited about Bali’s rail transportation future where we could jet from the airport to Nusa Dua or other locales without sitting in traffic. The current plan has been proposed to the central government and that will be followed by a feasibility study, Artika says.
