Prosecutors show gang members leniency over karaoke manager’s murder

Though they could have, prosecutors are not demanding the death penalty for three men on trial over the September 2015 murder of a Denpasar karaoke club manager.

Because of the defendants’ cooperation and apparently a display of remorse, prosecutors are instead seeking 10 years prison for the three defendants, Made Budiartha, Tri Yulianto, and Wayan Slamet—all of whom who happen to be members of mass organization Laskar Bali.

Royal Palace Karaoke & Spa’s director I Komang Budiarta reportedly died after he was violently stabbed on September 23, 2015, with mortal slash wounds to the chest, hand, and stomach.

In a Denpasar District Court session on Thursday, the prosecution team told Judge Edward Harris Sinaga that the three defendants have been proven convincingly guilty of committing the killing together.

But their admissions to the crime may have helped them avoid the firing squad—ultimately we’ll have to see what the judge thinks!

“The defendants also gave themselves up after committing the crime,” Tribun Bali quoted the prosecutor I Made Agus Sastrawan as saying.
