Stephen Michael Jamnitzky, a British national hailing from Chelmsford, England, could find himself spending at least two years behind the bars in Bali as he stood trial at the Denpasar District Court for alleged assault.

The court heard that Jamnitzky assaulted Adhi Waluyo last month after the Briton was arrested for not paying for his food and drinks at a Legian bar.

Public Prosecutor Putu Deneil Pradipta Intaran argued during the hearing that Jamnitzky is guilty of the criminal act of assault.

“He shall serve a prison term of two years and eight months, taking into account the period he has already spent in custody,” said Putu as quoted by DetikBali.

The incident that led to Jamnitzky’s predicament unfolded at The Pad Bene, a popular eatery in Legian. The inebriated foreigner allegedly vehemently refused to settle his bill, prompting the Kuta Police to intervene.

Adhi Waluyo, an officer on duty, attempted to pacify Jamnitzky and halt his raucous behavior. However, Jamnitzky’s stubbornness prevailed, forcing Adhi to take drastic measures by escorting him into custody.

Adhi later entered Jamnitzky’s cell to engage in dialogue, hoping to defuse the situation. However, the defendant saw this as an opportunity to unleash an unprovoked attack on Adhi that started with a headbutt and further physical assault, which left the cop unconscious.
