Prosecutors demand 6 years for Madura woman on trial for sending drugs in cigarette paper into Karangasem jail

A woman from Madura broke out into tears yesterday as prosecutors made their statement in Amlapura District Court.

Prosecutor Nyoman Gede Oka Mahendra demanded Ika Julia get six years behind bars as well as a fine of Rp 800 million, reports Tribun Bali

Her defense attorney Ketut Brata responded that he would file a written defense for his 27-year-old client.

Julia was arrested in Karangasem when trying to send drugs into the regency’s jail. The drugs were wrapped in cigarette paper, reports say. Julia had allegedly been told by her boyfriend to smuggle in the drugs.

Anyone else see the irony here of her potentially ending up where she was trying to send the drugs? Now she may be spending more time  with that boyfriend, if she hasn’t already dumped him for being the one to possibly get her into trouble.

The hearing will reportedly continue next week.
