President Jokowi says he will continue Russia and Ukraine peace talks at the G20 Summit in Bali

A couple of weeks after concluding his trips to Ukraine and Russia in a peace-building mission, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed his intention to continue the effort at November’s G20 Summit in Bali.

Speaking today via the president’s official Youtube channel, Jokowi said the summit, which will feature the world’s greatest economies, will be utilized to establish order and common welfare in the world.

“We have started with my visits to Ukraine and Russia last month, and we will continue this effort with the hope that it will bear results in the upcoming G20 Summit in November in Bali,” said Jokowi.

Russian officials have mentioned on several occasions that Putin will attend the summit in Bali, while Zelensky, who has been extended a special invitation, will send a representative as well as participate virtually.

As previously reported, President Jokowi met with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and with Ukraine’s President Volodymr Zelensky in Kyiv. The Indonesian president explained that his country’s foreign policy revolves around peace and humanitarian issues, and especially this year considering that Indonesia is chair of the G20 intergovernmental forum for the first time.

Jokowi is the first Asian leader to undertake such a peace-building mission, and he pledged to be a bridge of communications between Zelenskiy and Putin moving forward.
