Poppies stabbing victim in intensive care

The victim of a stabbing that occurred on Sunday on Kuta’s Jl. Poppies II is reportedly still in intensive care at Sanglah Hospital.

The family of victim Jose Marinus, 31, has been reluctant to say much about the incident, but local newspaper Tribun Bali was able to talk to his wife.

She said that her husband, a security guard of a villa in Dewi Sri, was not familiar with his attacker.

Marinus had been drinking with friends on Jl. Poppies II around 4:30 am when the incident happened.

“At that time, my husband was getting together with friends, but suddenly, there were dozens of men who came to him and said something,” the wife said in Sanglah on Monday.

Suspecting something was up, Marinus’ friends fled the scene, said Kuta Police Chief Comr. I Wayan Sumara confirmed to Tribun on Sunday evening. But Marinus wasn’t so lucky.

“He did not run way because he didn’t realize there was a problem, then the same people assaulted him and stabbed him two times in his left abdomen,” Marinus’ wife explained.

His attackers apparently left him lying in the street, but fortunately a WNA (foreigner) saw him and called for help. The man was rushed to Kasih Ibu and from there, referred to Sanglah Hospital for further treatment.

This isn’t the only stabbing attack in South Bali in recent weeks. Just last week on Feb. 25, a police officer was followed back to his kos and slashed in South Denpasar.
