A police officer is suspected of carrying out a violent robbery at a Mini Mart convenience store on Jl. Nakula in Bali’s main tourist hub of Seminyak in the wee hours of this morning (Tues, January 15).

Police identified the suspect as Yudi Kusuma Dana in a report by detiknews. According to the authorities, the perpetrator was apparently drunk when he arrived at the crime scene. Soon after entering, the suspect reportedly smashed a liquor bottle and threatened the cashier, Agus, with the broken glass.

Terrified, the shopkeeper handed over IDR441.000 (about US$31) from the cash register, but the sum was apparently not enough.

“[He] wasn’t satisfied and asked for more money, but in the end the perpetrator was beaten with books by employees until he fell to the ground,” explained the store manager to Jawa Pos.

After a failed escape, the perpetrator was eventually secured and police were called to the crime scene. According to the news outlet, Denpasar Police visited the location this morning together with a team from Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (INAFIS) to collect evidence. Meanwhile, the suspect is currently being detained at the Kuta Police Station.
