The remains of a woman and a baby were found inside a water pipe in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), as police launch an investigation to identify the bodies.

Since the bodies were found on Oct. 30 in Alak district, the NTT Police has since formed an integrated team to investigate the case.

Alak sub-precinct chief Tatang Panjaitan said authorities are still having a hard time identifying the bodies, which were found decomposing and wrapped inside a plastic bag. Police say they are still waiting for forensic results following an examination of the victims’ DNA.

However, NTT Police Chief Lotharia Latif expressed optimism that the case will be solved.

“I think this case will be solved, the most important thing is that we can investigate earnestly and use a scientific method,” Lotharia said today.
