Police take down drug ring in Bali, with one member allegedly dealing from LP Kerobokan

A drug ring operating in Bali with one of its members allegedly working from inside Kerobkan Prison was nabbed on Sunday, National Police announced.

Along with the DN, the inmate allegedly dealing from Kerobokan, police said three others from the ring were arrested, including I Made Putu, alias Putu Leon, 44, the group’s alleged leader; I Gede Putu Astawa, alias Putu Krecek, 39, an alleged courier; and Cahyadi, alias Bocah, 38, alleged to have distributed the contraband to Bali night clubs.

“Based on demand from Putu Leon, DN, using his cellphone, ordered crystal methamphetamine, smuggled from Guangzhou in China, and ecstasy from Malaysia. The drugs were then strapped around a courier’s waist and taken past the screening system at the Ngurah Rai International Airport,” Bali Police narcotics division director Sr. Comr. Raden Purwadi told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by the Jakarta Post

Police reportedly confiscated a ton of stuff, amounting to Rp 2.3 billion worth of evidence, including 154 packages containing crystal meth, 63 ecstasy pills, a bong, Rp 823 million in cash, five counterfeit Rp 100,000 notes, an SUV, motorbike, 18 mobile phones, a sales notebook, a samurai sword, knife, and air gun.

The men are facing charges that carry the death sentence as the maximum penalty.
