Police suspect father of kids who smuggled drugs into Kerobokan Prison in rice packets

These nasi bungkus packages look so innocuous, especially when kids are holding them—not like drug smuggling vehicles
The story of the two kids who allegedly attempted to smuggle drugs into Kerobokan Prison on Saturday when they were visiting their brother who is an inmate there is developing into a larger investigation.

Badung Police Narcotics Unit is building a case against the two minors known by their initials, 16-year-old JN and 10-year-old AD, reports Tribun Bali

Apparently the young siblings had been often delivering food to the prison for their brother, who was behind bars for a sexual abuse case.

Initially police suspected that the mother was responsible for making the brothers smuggle in the meth. “However, once we understood better, it looks like the father is the alleged perpetrator,” Bambang Gede Harta of the Badung Poolice Narcotics Unit.

Regarding the status of the minors themselves, Harta says they are not detained and their mother has been designated a witness.

On the inside, Kerobokan Prison authority Sudjonggo says the prison itself will wait for the results of the investigation of the inmate’s family and depending on the results will coordinate with the police for further investigation inside.

“So far, security still relies on manual inspection. This is certainly not optimal. It would be nice if other than manual inspection, X-Ray and other detectors were available,” Sudjonggo said, probably hoping the government officials in charge of prison budgeting would read his quotes.
