After going undercover and posing as gamblers police investigators have reportedly arrested 30 people involved in a gambling ring in Denpasar.
Head of Subdivision III Directorate General Economic Crime Division Commissioner Umar Surya Fana said police investigators went undercover to better understanding the gambling process and secure evidence.
“Because the system of gambling is a very closed one,” Fana said on Wednesday, as quoted by Kompas.
Apparently the challenge was for police to win when gambling last week, since it was only after buying in and then winning, they could understand how cash prizes were handed out to gamblers.
“This was our challenge. We had to win. But finally, we could do it,” Fana explained. (Excuse us while we just picture Indonesian police training themselves how to gamble and the glee they eventually experienced at winning.)
Of the 30 people arrested, 21 were players, while the remaining nine were managers, according to Fana.
The 30 people have been declared suspects and are in Denpasar Police custody as investigators continue to build their case.
