A Russian woman fell victim to a robbery this week, when a thief allegedly snatched her phone as she was walking down a street in Seminyak.

A video of the foreigner, who has since been identified by her initials AK, sobbing and trying to explain the incident to people around her, have circulated widely on social media.

Police in Badung regency said they have received a report about the robbery, and are currently investigating further.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 3pm on Tuesday, as AK was walking to a nearby food stall on Beraban street from her villa. Suddenly someone gave a hard tap on her shoulder and snatched her iPhone, which was reportedly one of the latest and most expensive models.

“When she was tapped on the shoulder, she almost fell down and the person who tapped her immediately snatched her phone and ran away. The victim doesn’t know who took it because she was taken by surprise,” Badung Police spokesman I Ketut Oka Bawa said.

Local residents reportedly tried to pursue the thief, but were unable to catch up as he was on a motorbike and quickly drove away. According to reports, the thief was driving a black Honda PCX.

“Whether it was a two-man or one-man job, someone from the area or otherwise, we’re still investigating,” Oka said.
